At the heart of the Alps, Christopher Schmitt develops a body of pictorial work inspired by the dynamics of the living world.
His practice emerges from regular immersion in nature, where mountains, forests, rivers, and mineral landscapes become spaces for observation and contemplation.
Through photography, walking, and a careful study of natural phenomena, he captures the invisible forces that move through matter: water, light, wind, minerals, plants, the cycle of seasons, processes of erosion, and the deep rhythms that structure nature. These observations give rise to a painting that is both refined and structured, where geometry, color, and space become the means of reflecting on the balance of the world.
His two main series — The Architecture of Life and Motionless Movement — explore the tension between stability and transformation. They question our human presence within the universe and our relationship to the living world, between order, movement, and equilibrium.
In an approach close to fine craftsmanship, Christopher Schmitt designs and builds the wooden supports for his paintings himself in his studio, extending the connection between the artwork and its material foundation.
His works are now part of several private collections, including that of the Swatch Group in Geneva. An artist listed on the art market, he now exhibits his work in France and internationally.

Au cœur des Alpes, Christopher Schmitt développe une œuvre picturale inspirée par les dynamiques du monde vivant. Son travail naît d’une immersion régulière dans la nature : montagnes, forêts, rivières et paysages minéraux deviennent pour lui des espaces d’observation et de contemplation.
À travers la photographie, la marche et l’étude attentive des phénomènes naturels, il capte les forces invisibles qui traversent la matière : l’eau, la lumière, le vent, les minéraux, les plantes, le cycle des saisons, les processus d’érosion et les rythmes profonds qui structurent la nature. Ces observations nourrissent une peinture à la fois épurée et structurée, où la géométrie, la couleur et l’espace deviennent les vecteurs d’une réflexion sur l’équilibre du monde.
Ses deux séries principales — L’Architecture du Vivant et Le Mouvement Immobile — explorent la tension entre stabilité et transformation. Elles interrogent notre présence humaine dans l’univers et notre relation au vivant, entre ordre, mouvement et équilibre.
Dans une démarche proche de l’artisanat d’art, Christopher Schmitt conçoit et fabrique lui-même les supports en bois de ses peintures dans son atelier, prolongeant ainsi le lien entre l’œuvre et la matière.
Ses œuvres figurent aujourd’hui dans plusieurs collections privées, dont celle du Groupe Swatch à Genève. Artiste coté sur le marché de l’art, il expose désormais son travail en France et à l’international.
